Wyscombe Beach Landscape Photography

Last week I had the pleasure of visiting Ayrmer Cove for a spot of Landscape Photography. However, things didn’t go swimmingly as they never seemed to with me!

I started off with good intentions of trying to photograph the aforementioned but unfortunately, the tide wasn’t at the right height for a composition I wanted. Not to be outdone, I headed to Wyscombe Beach which was roughly a quarter of a mile further along the coast. I am so glad I did. Wyscombe Beach is an incredible location for Landscape photographers. It just goes to show that it pays to remove your blinkers from time to time.

It’s best to watch the video and see how the day/night unfolded for me.

In this video, I capture images of the very picturesque Wyscombe Beach in Devon

Information and Fun Facts about Ayrmer Cove

Ayrmer Cove is a small secluded beach located on the South Devon coast in England. While there is limited information available specifically about Ayrmer Cove, here are some interesting historical and general facts about the area and the surrounding region:

  1. Location and Scenery: Ayrmer Cove is situated near the village of Ringmore, in the South Hams district of Devon. The cove is characterized by its rugged cliffs, pebble beach, and clear blue waters. It is known for its natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere.
  2. Geological Significance: The South Devon coastline, including Ayrmer Cove, is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The cliffs surrounding the cove are composed of rocks dating back to the Devonian period, around 400 million years ago, providing valuable geological insights.
  3. Smuggling History: Like many other secluded coves along the South Devon coast, Ayrmer Cove has a history of smuggling activities during the 18th and early 19th centuries. Its remote location made it an ideal spot for smugglers to bring contraband goods, such as alcohol, tobacco, and other prohibited items, ashore undetected.
  4. The South West Coast Path: Ayrmer Cove is a popular stop along the South West Coast Path, a long-distance hiking trail that stretches for 630 miles (1,014 km) along the coastline of Southwest England. The path offers stunning views of the rugged coastline and passes through Ayrmer Cove, making it a favourite spot for walkers and nature enthusiasts.
  5. Nearby Attractions: Ayrmer Cove is in close proximity to several other exciting attractions in the area. Notably, the picturesque village of Ringmore is worth a visit, with its thatched cottages and charming church. Additionally, the nearby Bigbury-on-Sea offers beautiful sandy beaches and is famous for the iconic Burgh Island, which can be reached by a unique sea tractor during low tide.
  6. Wildlife and Nature: Ayrmer Cove and its surrounding area are home to a diverse range of flora and fauna. The cliffs provide nesting sites for seabirds, and the waters are inhabited by marine life. Visitors to the cove may spot seabirds like cormorants, gulls, and razorbills, as well as dolphins and seals if they are lucky.
  7. Outdoor Activities: Ayrmer Cove and the surrounding coastal region offer opportunities for various outdoor activities. These include coastal walks, rock pooling, birdwatching, swimming (though caution should be exercised due to the absence of lifeguards), and picnicking on the beach.

Remember, checking the latest local information, guidelines, and safety measures is always a good idea before visiting Ayrmer Cove or any other location.
